The Board Members are elected every year at the annual meeting held in November. The term is for three years. Following the annual meeting, the officers are voted upon at the first meeting of the year.
President: Sandra Olsen
Sandra Olsen has served on the Camp Na-Bor-Lee Board in different capacities since 2006. Her granddad, Bob Draper, was one of the founders of Camp Na-Bor-Lee and helped instill a love of nature, camping, and youth. Sandra is a teacher at Roosevelt Elementary in Spokane Public Schools where she has taught 4th and 5th grades for 12 years. Before teaching in Spokane, she taught in Grand Coulee Dam School District for 9 years. She attended Central Washington University to earn her teaching degree. In her personal life, Sandra is married to Rick Olsen, a lifelong resident of Spokane, WA. They are raising two daughters to love, learn, and serve at Camp Na-Bor-Lee as well.

Vice-President: Debi Newsum-Stovern
Debi Newsum was raised in Spokane, Washington and has spent most of her life here working in education. She taught middle school language arts and social studies for 20 years, 15 at Chase Middle School before into administration and serving as an assistant principal at Roosevelt Elementary School for two years before moving to the Reardan-Edwall School District where she has served as a principal for the past 8 years. Bringing an appreciation for and an education about the outdoors is a passion of hers. Serving on the Camp Na-Bor-Lee Board helps foster the connection in the Reardan-Edwall community as well as other schools in Lincoln County.

Treasurer: Cheryl Wood, Elected 2021
Cheryl has been involved with Camp NaBorLee since the mid-1990’s when she was asked to be the camp leader of a large girls’ camp. She has been serving on the Board as Treasurer. Cheryl’s background has always been in bookkeeping and accounting. She loves camping, cooking, sewing and spending time with her family.

Secretary: Johanna Ellis, Elected 2022
Johanna Ellis lives near the small farming community of Mondovi, Wa. She has been married for almost 24 years to her husband Bob. Together they have twins who are currently seniors in high-school. Johanna has worked in the legal field for 10+ years, volunteers at local museums and her church as well as serving on the Camp Na-Bor-Lee Board. Her kids have been campers at the 4-H camp held at Camp Na-Bor-Lee since they were able and now have been serving as counselors there as well. Johanna serves as the note-taker extraordinaire for the Board meetings and also works on the website and social media accounts for Camp Na-Bor-Lee.

Board Member: Jim Buchanan, Elected 2022
Jim Buchanan lives in Davenport, Washington along with his wife Sandy, has been married for 45 years, and has 3 children and 5 grandchildren. He works for Lincoln County Public Works as an equipment operator. He hopes to retire in 2024. Jim has served on the Camp Na-Bor-Lee board over 20 years from president to camp clean up coordinator. The camp is important to him because it not only allows a safe environment for kid camps, but also uniquely allows large family gatherings. His family has been gathering at Camp Na-Bor-Lee for over 45 years. Many good memories have been made camping along the river. A fun fact is that Jim’s dad, Neil Buchanan grew up near Camp Na-Bor-Lee at a farm in Fruitland. Dad loved camping here because it was like going home. Many a family trek has happened to the old farmstead showing younger generations where grandpa lived. Dad was in the last car to cross the bridge at Fort Spokane before the water submerged it when Grand Coulee Dam’s water began to create Lake Roosevelt!

Board Member: Gayle Bunnell, Elected 2022
Gayle was born and raised on a ranch south of Wilbur, WA. She has three children, who all live in the Spokane area, and seven granddaughters. She currently lives in Valley, WA and works for the Kalispel Tribe of Indians at Northern Quest Casino. Her hobbies include camping and boating, which she does almost every weekend in the summer.
Gayle has been involved with and camping at Camp Na-Bor-Lee her whole life. Her dad, Robert Draper, was one of the founders of Camp Na-Bor-Lee. He instilled the love of camping and the vision that he had for the camp. Although she has been involved in volunteering and participating at Camp Na-Bor-Lee her whole life, she recently joined the Board of Directors in 2022.

Board Member: Todd McLaughlin, Elected 2022
Todd McLaughlin grew up in Woburn, MA, located about 10 miles NW of Boston. He spent many summers exploring the New England forests and lakes, which led to his goal to work in an outdoors career. He eventually made it to Fairbanks, AK and received a BS in Wildlife Biology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. While there, he met his future wife and eventually moved to her hometown of Reardan, WA. He has worked seasonal wildlife research positions with WA Dept. of Fish and Wildlife in the Columbia Basin, spent some time as a Natural Resource Planner in Pend Oreille County, and is currently an Environmental and Cultural Resource Specialist with Avista. His connection to Camp Na-Bor-Lee is the many years his kids have participated in the 4H retreat, where he has seen how important this wonderful location is to kids in the NW. In his spare time, he likes to camp, hike, and kayak all around the Pacific NW. His lifelong interests in outdoor recreational activities make preservation and protection of our area’s natural resources a priority in his life.
